Saif Jaweed, M.D., knew early on that a career in medicine was inevitable. Born in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Jaweed grew up like most kids. He played sports, like soccer and ping pong and also loved video games and reading. But, as he says with a smile, he “had no choice but to enter medicine.” After all, both his parents are physicians and each of his maternal grandparents are physicians as well. And, since his older brothers both chose other career professions, Dr. Jaweed felt a calling to medicine.
Congratulations to Dr. Jaweed on his decision and his joining the ranks of other well-respected physicians, to use the newest technology available with his patients. DEXTENZA removes the burden on patients to administer steroid drops. One insert vs. ~70 eyedrops over 30 days.
After high school, where Saif Jaweed would ultimately decide to enter the medical field, he attended University of Toledo for undergraduate studies then back to Toledo to Medical College of Ohio for medical school. During medical school, Dr. Jaweed did rotations at The Christ Hospital and it was during his time in Ophthalmology that he quickly gained interest in the specialty. He learned that through Ophthalmology, he could improve patients’ lives merely by helping them with their vision.
“I’ve always felt that we must stay on the cusp of technology, maintaining this focus allows us to reduce patient downtime, have a great patient experience and hopefully achieve better visual results.”
“I always loved all the parts of being a Medical Doctor,” recalls Dr. Jaweed. “But when I did my rotations in Ophthalmology, I immediately found that when a patient comes in with a vision problem, I can actually do something. Often times, I can fix people’s vision which is an incredible feeling.” After his residency, back at University of Cincinnati, Dr. Jaweed did his Fellowship in LASIK® at University of Cincinnati and LCA Vision. It was there that he recognized the incredible ability that eye surgeons, particularly LASIK surgeons, can change the lives of people forever. Today, Dr. Jaweed is proud to be the Director of MidWest Eye Center where he practices Comprehensive Ophthalmology as well as Refractive Surgery. “Ophthalmology is the combination of several disciplines,” explains Dr. Jaweed. “For instance, we use physics, optics, engineering, medical, neurology, psychology and quite a few other specialties all integral parts of Ophthalmology. It’s an incredible field where we can do amazing things.”
