Saltarelli

Daniele (Dan) Saltarelli is an optometrist with career interests in the areas of pediatrics, urgent eye care, and therapeutic contact lens applications. He earned his Honors Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from McMaster University in Ontario, Canada, and his Doctorate of Optometry from the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. Saltarelli completed a residency in Primary Care Optometry and Ocular Disease at the Illinois Eye Institute in Chicago.

With over 20 years of clinical teaching experience, Dr. Saltarelli has educated and mentored optometry students and residents at leading institutions, including the Cincinnati VA Medical Center, Cincinnati Eye Institute, and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, where he also established and served as Program Director for the Pediatric Optometry Residency Program. While on faculty at the University of Cincinnati Department of Ophthalmology, Dr. Saltarelli also dedicated a significant portion of his time and effort in the creation and development of the UC Continuing Education Lecture Series and the Pediatric Contact Lens Clinic.

Dr. Saltarelli’s professional contributions extend beyond the clinic and classroom. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, and has served as official instructor to the Brien Holden Vision Institute for his time spent in India delivering pediatric eye care workshops to students and faculty.  Dr. Saltarelli has held memberships with various professional organizations at the state and national level, and remains an active member in the American Academy of Optometry and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.

Committed to global outreach, Dr. Saltarelli has participated in three international medical missions to Haiti and Guatemala, providing essential vision care to underserved communities. He has contributed to several publications, including peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and conference presentations, shared at both national and international levels.

Outside of work, Dr. Saltarelli spends most of his time helping his lovely wife Susie raise their four wonderful kids which range in age from high school senior to kindergartener. Any time left is spent  getting his hands dirty with DIY home projects, vegetable gardening, running and cycling.
