What is Botox®
BOTOX® Cosmetic is an FDAapproved neurotoxin treatment to temporarily improve the appearance of both moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet lines in adults. It is one of the safest, most popular and extensively studied medical aesthetic treatment available.
BOTOX® Cosmetic targets the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years, which are one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet. Our MidWest Eye Center specialist will inject these muscles with BOTOX® Cosmetic to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows.
Am I a Candidate for Botox® Treatments?
You may be a candidate for Botox treatments if you:
- Have prominent forehead creasing
- Have brow furrowing
- Have crow’s feet or other types of wrinkling
- During your consultation, the doctors at MidWest Eye Center will do a thorough evaluation and explain your options in detail.
How is Botox® administered?
For the crow’s feet area, you will receive injections in 3 areas of the orbicularis oculi, the muscle that frames the side of the eye. This process reduces the activity of the muscle that frames the side of the eye. The result is a reduction in the appearance of the lines in the crow’s feet area.
For the frown lines area, you will receive 5 injections into muscles in your forehead. This process reduces the activity of these muscles and it results in a reduction in the appearance of the lines in the forehead area.
Are the injections painful?
Some patients have reported that being injected with BOTOX® Cosmetic feels like your skin is getting pinched. To ease any discomfort, ice or a numbing cream can be applied to anesthetize the treatment area. The actual injection process takes about 10 minutes.
How long is the recovery?
One of the selling points of the Botox treatment is that it has minimal downtime or recovery.
Many patients come in during their lunch hour to have the procedure done and go right back to work afterwards.
When will I see results?
You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours for moderate to severe frown lines, with results lasting up to 4 months. You’ll look like yourself—only with less noticeable frown lines and crow’s feet.
