EVO ICL?

EVO ICL, also known as EVO, is an evolution in vision correction surgery. EVO can free patients from the inconvenience, discomfort, and expense that often comes from contact lenses and glasses.

EVO ICL is an implantable lens positioned just behind the iris, the colored part of your eye, to correct nearsightedness and nearsightedness with astigmatism. The procedure was designed to be even more comfortable for the patient than earlier versions of the EVO ICL and a faster, more efficient procedure for surgeons than traditional laser surgeries. The collamer base of the lens material is 100 percent biocompatible.

The EVO ICL was created to function harmoniously with your body’s chemistry. Thanks to the EVO ICL procedure, many people have been granted the flexibility to live more active lifestyles and enjoy an improved quality of life.

Benefits

The procedure corrects a wide range of eye prescriptions quickly and effectively, delivering excellent night vision and even built-in UV protection. It is designed to provide permanent vision correction, although it is both removable and replaceable, if needed. EVO is an ideal option for patients who don’t prefer glasses or contact lenses and are not candidates for laser eye surgery.

The recovery time for the EVO ICL is very quick, comfortable, and, in some cases, as little as a day due to the small size of the incision made during the procedure. The incision needed to implant the foldable EVO ICL is located on the far edge of the cornea, where there is little danger of it interfering with vision.

The unique technology of the EVO ICL also removes a hurdle required by other types of ICLs prior to ICL surgery. With other types of ICLs, you are required to have a laser procedure, called a laser peripheral iridotomy, or LPI, prior to ICL surgery.

The laser peripheral iridotomy procedure reduces the likelihood of an eye pressure spike after ICL surgery. However, thanks to the advanced technology of the EVO ICL, this step is not necessary.

This means you can schedule your EVO ICL procedure quicker and experience clear vision sooner.

EVO ICL has been approved in Europe since 1997 and in the U.S. since 2005. In 2018, the addition of the EVO Toric ICL expanded the range of vision which can be treated directly with the lens to include up to 4 diopters of astigmatism.

Higher degrees of astigmatism can even be treated by combining ICL with other procedures. In 2019, one million EVO ICLs were implanted to date, with studies showing a 99 percent patient satisfaction rate.

Demand for the EVO procedure has more than doubled since 2018 amongst patients, becoming one of the premier solutions for refractive vision correction throughout the world.

Who Is A Candidate?

Every patient has unique vision correction and eye care needs. This is why it’s important to schedule an online or in-person consultation with an eye doctor at MidWest Eye Center to make an informed decision about the procedure.

Before you can schedule the procedure, you must first ensure that you are a candidate for the procedure. You may be an excellent candidate if you:

EVO ICL can be used for patients suffering from dry eye, with thin or abnormal corneas, and in many other situations which might preclude LASIK.

What Happens During the EVO ICL Procedure

The EVO ICL procedure is an outpatient procedure, meaning you will get to go home after surgery. Although many people will experience clear vision after the EVO ICL procedure, your eye doctor will require you to arrange transportation with a friend or a family member to and from your procedure.

First, your eye surgeon will numb the surface of your eye, known as the cornea, with anesthetic drops. Then, they will make a tiny incision in your cornea to access the area where they will place the EVO ICL.

Next, they will insert the EVO ICL and position it in place behind the iris and in front of your eye's natural lens. Once in place, the procedure will be complete.

The tiny incision on the surface of your eye will heal naturally during your recovery without the need for sutures. The entire procedure is relatively quick, taking only about twenty to thirty minutes!

Your eye doctor will likely want to see you the day after the procedure, as well as periodically after that. During these visits, your eye doctor will ensure that your eyes are healing properly and that your vision has improved.

From the EVO ICL Procedure?

Your eye doctor will provide you with a list of instructions to follow in order to experience a smooth recovery from the EVO ICL procedure. In the days following your procedure, it's best to take it easy and rest.

Avoid doing any strenuous activity, such as exercising or lifting heavy weights, until your eye doctor clears you to do so. You may also want to wear sunglasses to combat any light-sensitivity you may experience.

Make sure you wear the eye shield provided to you by your eye doctor as instructed. Your eye doctor will likely ask you to wear this shield when you sleep to avoid accidentally rubbing or disturbing your eyes.

It is also important to ensure that you do not rub your eyes, swim, or wear any makeup until your eye doctor tells you that it is okay. In most cases, recovery from the EVO ICL procedure is relatively easy and quick.

However, if you notice any pain or pressure in your eyes, be sure to call your eye doctor right away. Closely following all of the recovery instructions provided to you by your eye doctor will ensure that you have a smooth recovery and avoid any possible complications.

After your eyes are healed, you will get to experience true visual freedom with reduced dependency on visual aids!
